Another location that is thought to be a prehistoric settlement is the "Gold Diggers' Cave," which is located near today's Hanover PA.
The history of Hanover can be dated back to between the eighth and fifteenth centuries. Settlements were built by the Scandinavians along the banks of the River Reitika. Many of the early settlements included religious activity. The Scandinavians built numerous churches, including one that is still standing today.
When the Swedish monarch Sweden changed political control of Germany, the Swedes remained in control of Hanover. When World War II began, the Germans were forced to evacuate their home. Most of the Swedish population in the area emigrated to the US to escape the destruction of their homes. During World War II, Hanover was occupied by the British military, and the US Army began building-post areas on the outskirts of town. Today, the town of Hanover serves as a State Park.
